Description

The current village of Peresopnytsia is the former capital of a separate principality and the place of creation of the Peresopnytsia Gospel, one of the main present symbols of Ukraine, the book on which the country's presidents take their oath. This is the first translation of the Holy Scriptures into the Ukrainian language. Now a new Cultural and Archaeological Center is operating on the territory of Peresopnytsia.

For the first time, Peresopnytsia is mentioned in the annals in 1149 as one of the important cities of Kievan Rus. She is mentioned 18 times in Kyiv, and Galicia-Volyn chronicles alone.

In 1149–1246, princes from the Rurik family ruled here: Vyacheslav Volodymyrovych, Hlib, Mstislav and Andriy (sons of Yuriy Dolgoruky), Izyaslav Mstislavych, Volodymyr Andriyovych, Volodymyr Mstislavovych, Mstislav Yaroslavovych (Nimiy), Vasylko Romanovych.

In 1240, Peresopnitsa and the principality were ravaged by the Mongol Tatars under the command of Batia. The Mongols also destroyed the Peresopnytsia principality.

The wife of Prince Chortorii Mykhailo Vasyliovych Maria, the daughter of Lutsk headman Nemyra Rezanovych, received a charter for a monastery in Peresopnytsia from the king in 1504.

Prince Yuriy Ivanovich Chortoriysky (Lutsk head of the city, originally Orthodox, since 1598 Uniate) - in 1595, he donated the village of Peresopnitsa and several others to Russian monks to maintain a hospital for people experiencing poverty. However, with the consent of the king, his son Mykola-Yuriy registered the village for the maintenance of mansions in the city of Klevan.

The story of the creation of the Peresopnytsia Gospel is connected with the Orthodox monastery in Peresopnytsia. In 1561, the translation, rewriting, and decoration of the book were completed here. This was the first known translation of the Holy Scriptures from Church Slavonic into the then-written Old Ukrainian language. The Peresopnytsia Gospel was transcribed on 482 parchment sheets and artistically decorated with drawings (images of the four evangelists), interludes, and floral ornaments. It is on it that its Presidents take the oath of loyalty to Ukraine. Every year on May 22 (the day of T. Shevchenko's reburial in Ukraine), Peresopnytsia holds a regional holiday of the Ukrainian language, culture, and spirituality.

In 2011, the All-Ukrainian celebration of the 450th anniversary of the Peresopnytsia Gospel took place in Peresopnytsia. The cultural and archaeological complex "Peresopnytsia" is open: museum-pantheon (three tiers with observation decks).

In Peresopnytsa, the wooden Mykolaiv Church, erected in the first half of the 18th century, has been preserved. It is located not far from the reconstructed part of the ancient princely castle, which is fake but quite enjoyable.
