The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Lutsk is an active Roman Catholic cathedral today. It was built in 1616-1639, according to the project of the famous architect Giacomo Briano. In 1773, the church was transferred to the Commission of public education, and later, after a fire in 1781, the chair of the Catholic bishop was moved here. The church received the status of a cathedral in 1787. In these years, renovation works have been carried out under the direction of the architect Uminskyi. After completing the jobs, the facade and interior received new stylistic features. The new interior was lavishly decorated with moldings, pilasters, sculptures, and paintings. There are cellars under the church, which are located on several levels. In 1948, the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Cathedral were closed and used as a warehouse. And from 1970 to 1991, the Museum of atheism was housed in the church. In 1991, the Lviv bishop of the Roman Catholic Church re-consecrated the church.

The history of the church goes back four centuries. Its medieval walls are imbued with the atmosphere of antiquity and keep many secrets left here by Jesuit monks. Once in the church, a person seems to be transported to distant times. The Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was an integral part of the defense system of Lutsk. That is why he covered massive towers with loopholes. Surprisingly, three underground floors are hidden behind the mighty walls, which made it possible to survive any attack and siege safely. This place is one of the most mysterious in Lutsk and beckons lovers of thrills. Gloomy vaults, tombs flooded with water, human bones, skulls... Historians have not yet found an answer to who those who died under the church's vaults were. Numerous excavations were carried out in the dungeon: furniture, utensils, and other medieval household items were brought out. You can visit the mysterious dungeon by signing up for an excursion. The cathedral is one of the most significant Catholic shrines in Volyn. A well-preserved bell tower from the 16th century is located near it. The interior of the ancient church is also attractive, decorated with stucco, sculptures, and paintings. Attention is captivated by the traditional organ, which creates a unique atmosphere in the cathedral and unsurpassed acoustics - classical concerts are often held here. Today, the church is an active Catholic church. Divine service in the church is held in Polish and Ukrainian.
