The museum is conditionally accessible. At the entrance to the building, there is a flight of stairs without handrails. The stairs are covered with a slippery material. In one place, on part of the staircase, a wooden lattice structure is placed on top of the stairs, eliminating the risk of slipping. However, it instead creates an additional threat of injury. There is also a ramp on the side, which is steep (33%) and slippery. There are no handrails both at the stairs and at the ramp.
Due to the lack of a vertical connection, the exhibits on the 2nd floor are not accessible to people in wheelchairs. Something has been done about accessibility for the visually impaired. Visually impaired and blind people can listen to the tour, provided the guide has audio description skills. There are no tactile exhibits.
Restrooms are not available to Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM).
Description
The local history museum in Rivne is located in the former male gymnasium, built in the classicism style in 1839 at the initiative of Prince Frederik Lubomyrsky. Several famous Ukrainian figures of science and culture are taught here. Among them are the Ukrainian historian Kostomarov and others.
During the Second World War, the building of the Rivne gymnasium served as the Reich's Commissariat of Ukraine. Since 1975, the premises have been occupied by the local history museum of the region, which was organized in 1906. There are about 140,000 exhibits, including local archaeological finds, a numismatic collection, an ethnographic exhibition, items from the Cossack era, and many icons.
Near the gymnasium, there is an exhibition of military equipment in the square.
Open 10:00-18:00; Monday is a day off.
