Sarny Historical and Ethnographic Museum

It is considered to be with limited access for visitors using wheelchairs and for people with visual impairments.

Description

A museum with an open-air museum in Sarny, a branch of the Rivne Local History Museum. The museum has collected historical monuments, a collection of old clothes, household items, and materials that tell about the trades and crafts of the Polissia region. Architectural buildings of Volhynia Polissia are presented in the open area. The Sarnen Museum was opened as a museum of local history. In 1978, the museum exposition was replenished with exhibits that were placed in the open air:

  • the estate of a middle-class peasant;
  • the hut of a poor peasant;
  • forge;
  • the chapel of the 18th century;
  • a windmill of the end of the 19th century.

Later, an exhibition was opened near the chapel, where a symbolic cemetery with stone monuments of the 17th century was placed.

Currently, the museum has more than 7,000 exhibits of the main and the same number of scientific and auxiliary funds.

The museum's employees carry out scientific and research work on studying the material and spiritual culture of the Rivne Polissia. The museum's funds were replenished with collections of shirts, aprons, suites, and household items thanks to ethnographic expeditions. Products of traditional Polish trades are collected: pottery, cooperage, wicker weaving, and wood carvings.

Every spring, folk art festivals are held on the territory of the museum, as well as the Kust driving ceremony, a traditional holiday for the Polish region.
