The Ensemble of the Bernardine Monastery

The temple is accessible to people with disabilities (wheelchair users), so we can also enter the interior in a wheelchair. There are no particular problems with accessibility. The problem is only when both leaves of the temple gate are closed, and the entrance is only through the gate. In this case, there is a threshold in the movable gate leaf.

No toilet near the temple is accessible to Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM).

People in wheelchairs can enter the courtyard of the Bernardine Monastery without any obstacles. Just be careful, because there are cars parked in the yard.

The Ensemble of the Bernardine Monastery is a sacral building that impresses with its beauty and grandeur.

Bernardine monks arrived in Lviv in the 15th century and got permission to build a wooden church and monastery near the city walls. After 140 years, they applied to the magistrate for permission to create a stone ensemble. They received such permission under one condition - the entire ensemble must be surrounded by mighty fortifications that will be included in the defense system of Lviv, and the monks undertake to defend their cell. This was fine for the Bernardines - this order was mostly joined by former soldiers who knew how to hold weapons in their hands.

St. Andrew's Church is rightly considered one of the masterpieces of Lviv architecture. It was built in 1629 and opened a new page in the history of Lviv architecture. The church's facade, designed by Andreas Bemer, an architect from Wrocław who worked prolifically in Lviv, is incredibly mesmerizing. In the niches of the middle tier - in the center is the figure of the Mother of God and two apostles - St. Peter and St. Andrew Above is the figure of Jesus Christ, and in the round medallions are two coats of arms of Poland and Lithuania. The cornice is decorated with numerous sculptures of the Bernardine Fathers.

It is believed that A. Bemer was also the author of the magnificent 38-meter tower. Slender and elegant, this octagonal tower has become a symbol of the temple and the entire city.
